Scripture Memory for Wiggly Kids: 6 Fun Activities
Helping busy bodies hide God’s Word in their hearts
Wiggly kids aren’t a problem to solve—they’re a gift to celebrate! God gave children big energy, curious minds, and active bodies. And believe it or not, those qualities can actually help them memorize Scripture. The key is to make memory time playful, engaging, and full of movement.
Here are six fun activities to help your wiggly kids hide God’s Word in their hearts:
1. Motion Memory
Assign simple hand motions to keywords in the verse. Jump for “rejoice,” spread your arms wide for “love,” or point to your heart for “believe.” Kids naturally remember movements—and connecting actions to words helps Scripture stick. Bonus: this works great for toddlers and preschoolers!
2. Verse Hopscotch
Write each word of a Bible verse in chalk on the driveway or on pieces of paper indoors. As your child hops from word to word, have them say each one out loud. This combines physical movement with repetition and makes memory time feel like play.
3. Sing It Out
Set the verse to a simple, catchy tune—like “Twinkle, Twinkle” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” Singing engages both the mind and memory, and songs are easier to recall than spoken words. Don’t worry if you’re not musically inclined—your kids will just love the silliness!
4. Puzzle It Together
Write the verse on a piece of paper, cut it into a few large puzzle pieces, and let your child put it back together. As they work, read the verse aloud. For extra fun, hide the pieces around the room and turn it into a scavenger hunt.
5. Clap and Repeat
Say the verse slowly, clapping once between each word. Then have your child repeat after you with matching claps. This rhythmic pattern helps kids learn at a steady pace while using both verbal and motor skills.
6. Verse Relay
Write parts of the verse on notecards and place them across the yard or room. Have your child run to retrieve one card at a time, then assemble the verse in order. It’s a great way to burn off energy while practicing Scripture!
Keep It Light and Joyful
The goal isn’t perfection—it’s planting God’s Word in their hearts, little by little. Don’t worry if it takes time. Celebrate progress, laugh together, and keep going.
